South Burlington, VT -
On Thursday, December 13, 2007, the Vermont House Transportation Committee is hitting the road to listen to the transportation challenges of Chittenden County and to bring its own concerns about state transportation infrastructure to the region.
Beginning at 11:00 a.m., the committee will visit bridges in Richmond, Jericho, Underhill, Essex, and Winooski.

At 1:00 p.m., the committee will hear testimony from local, state, and federal officials at the CCTA board room, 15 Industrial Ave., Burlington. The public is invited to attend. At 3:15, residents will have an opportunity to ask questions, make comments, or offer suggestions.
"The bridges on our tour are examples of bridge problems that Vermont is facing statewide," noted Rep. Rich Westman (Cambridge), the Chair of the committee. "The December 13th meeting and Public Hearing will highlight these problems at the local and regional level, and give people in Chittenden County an understanding of the general shape of transportation across the state."
The Minnesota bridge tragedy this past summer and subsequent federal reports that Vermont ranks among the top ten states in the country with the most deficient bridges has prompted the House Transportation Committee to better assess the condition of our roads and bridges. The Committee is reaching beyond the State House in order to gain a better understanding of the problems faced at the local level, and to ask Vermonters what should be done to address these problems.
