Executive Director, Knight Announces Retirement from CCMPO

South Burlington, VT - Robert Penniman, Chairman of the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) announced that William J. Knight has decided to retire from his position as Executive Director of the CCMPO. Mr. Knight has been with the CCMPO for four and a half years and has agreed to continue to serve as Executive Director of the organization through to the end of the year while a search for a succeeding Executive Director is undertaken.

The Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization (CCMPO) is the Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) for the 18 municipalities of the Chittenden County region. Each year, the CCMPO oversees about $30 million in transportation investments. It evaluates and approves proposed transportation improvement projects and provides a forum for interagency cooperation and public input into funding decisions. It also sponsors and conducts studies, assists local municipalities with planning activities, and develops and updates the County's long range transportation plan (known as the Metropolitan Transportation Plan). Serving about 145,000 people, the CCMPO is Vermont's only MPO.

Prior to joining the CCMPO, Mr. Knight served for 8 years as the Executive Director of the Toledo Metropolitan Area Council of Governments, a similar association of local governments, school districts, colleges and universities, and other public and private stakeholders to provide input into regional transportation services, land-use planning, and ensure environmental quality in the region.

As CCMPO Executive Director, Mr. Knight has cultivated a staff of professionals and volunteers that make up the heart of the organization. “We are grateful to have been able to have Bill’s experience and leadership over the past few years and appreciate his willingness to help us transition to new leadership,” said Penniman.
