New Transportation Options To Be Considered

South Burlington, VT - New options for getting where you want to go will be considered by the board of the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization, the region’s transportation planning agency, at its meeting on Wednesday October 15, 2003 at 7 p.m. The board will hear recommendations on improvements to I-89 between exits 12 and 15, and recommendations on park and ride facilities.

Staff from the Vermont Agency of Transportation will present an update on the current status of the environmental assessment for the I-89 urban transportation improvement study. The study area is between I-89 exits 12 and 15. Projects identified for future study include: widening I-89 from four to six lanes, creating an interchange at Hinesburg Road, and initiating a study to reduce queuing at exit 12 and 14 by adding a lane at the ramp.

The recommendations of the park and ride plan will be presented to the board by CCMPO staff. The board will consider the report, and staff and subcommittee reports that recommend park and ride priorities. The CCMPO prioritized 27 distinct park and ride sites based in part on demand, location, readiness, and subcommittee ranking.

The meeting will be held at CCMPO offices, 30 Kimball Avenue, South Burlington. Meetings are open to the public. For more information, visit www.ccmpo.org, or call the CCMPO at 660-4071 ext.223.
