South Burlington, VT- The Chittenden County Metropolitan
Planning Organization (CCMPO) in partnership with the Lamoille
County Planning Commission (LCPC), will hold public meetings
to gather input on the development of a traffic and transportation
management plan for VT 15. The meetings will be held on June
17th at 6 p.m. in Cambridge Village at the Elementary School
(located in Jeffersonville on School Street) and June 23rd at
6 p.m. in Morrisville at Hilary’s Restaurant (located on
Brooklyn Street in the Northgate Plaza).
The management plan will identify needs and recommend improvements
along VT 15 from the Jericho/Essex town line in Chittenden
County, through Cambridge, Johnson, Hyde Park, Morristown,
and Wolcott
in Lamoille County to the center of Hardwick. The purpose of
the meetings is to gather input and insights from the residents,
business owners, and travelers who live along and regularly
travel VT 15. Comments on existing problems and suggestions
for solutions
will be used to develop recommendations, which will be presented
at a future public meeting.
Preliminary issues have been identified by Resource Systems
Group, the consultant hired to conduct the study. These include
high
accident intersections and road segments located throughout
the study area from Cambridge to Hardwick. Locations with
the highest
crash rates include the VT 15 intersections with 100C in
Johnson, VT 100 in Hyde Park, and VT 100 in Morrisville.
Entering VT
15 from intersecting side roads is becoming more difficult
for vehicles,
particularly during the morning rush hour. Delays are likely
to increase at most of the major intersection in the future
if no improvements are made. Critical gaps in the various
sidewalk systems along the corridor have been identified
and availability
of bicycle-friendly road-shoulders is inconsistent throughout
the corridor. Opportunities for enhanced park-and-ride facilities
and potential for public transit have also been identified.
The consultants will also present findings on future traffic
and safety conditions, and will summarize an assessment
of how emerging development patterns could affect travel
in
the corridor.
Meeting participants will be asked to comment on the findings
and to help identify goals and opportunities for improving
mobility and safety along VT 15.
