The Route 15 Corridor

The primary goal of the VT 15 Corridor Study was to develop a comprehensive multi-modal transportation improvement plan (Plan) for the VT 15 corridor from Main Street (“Circulator”) in Winooski through the towns of Colchester and Essex, the Village of Essex Junction, to the border of Essex and Jericho. The Susie Wilson Corridor from VT 15 to VT 2A was also addressed. The Plan presents a long-term vision and goals for the corridor and recommends a number of short, medium and long-term transportation and land use strategies to achieve the vision over time. Transportation strategies developed for the study area address highway, pedestrian, bicycle and public transit modes. Land use, access management and corridor aesthetic strategies were also developed that support the long term vision of the VT 15 corridor. This Plan builds on the numerous planning efforts, development programs and projects that have been initiated over the last several years along the VT 15 Corridor by state, regional and local entities.

This study was primarily funded by the Chittenden County Metropolitan Planning Organization and the Vermont Agency of Transportation. The four municipalities and Institutions along the VT 15 corridor also contributed and actively participated in the study. There was continuous and extensive public outreach throughout the planning process to ensure that interested parties and the public in general had ample opportunities to provide their input.

The following information provides the history and previous studies on the Vermont Route 15 project corridor.
